Sanderling
Waldorf School enrolls students in our three mixed-age
Nursery/Kindergarten classes and Grades
1-8 for the 2013-14 school year. The
admissions office accepts applications on a rolling basis year-round,
with applications for immediate placement subject to availability.
New
applications for the following school year enter a waiting pool, where
admissions decisions for any available openings are made by the faculty
not on a
first-come, first-served basis, but on a number of factors including
(not necessarily in priority order):
- Current or
past enrollment of the child in
Sanderling Waldorf School programs
- If the
child is a sibling of another child
currently enrolled at Sanderling Waldorf School
- Length of
time the child has been in the
waiting pool
- Current
enrollment of the child in another
Waldorf school
- Fit
between the opening (e.g., 3 days/week) and
the needs of the family (e.g., needs 5 days/week)
- Willingness
of the parents to support the
Waldorf educational philosophy.
Please note
that first grade students must
turn six years old by June 1 to enroll, and so on for the subsequent
grades. This age requirement, which is earlier than many traditional
schools, is for pedagogical reasons and is non-negotiable.
The following
steps comprise the application and
enrollment process:
1. Attend an
Open House, Observation Day or tour
We
have a full calendar of Open
House/Parent Education
and Classroom Observation Days.
These are the best
opportunities to meet school teachers and families, experience what
goes on in the classroom, and have your
questions answered. An RSVP is required for these adults-only
events. Informal after-school
tours may be scheduled by appointment.
However, we strongly encourage
prospective parents to plan ahead and attend at least one of
our
formal events, as they give the most well-rounded view into our school
community.
2. Submit an
application
You may
download applications for all of our
programs here.
All applications must be completed in full and include the $75
application fee (Nursery/Kindergarten and Grades programs only).
3. Interview
Shortly
after you submit your child's application for the Nursery/Kindergarten
or Grades program, our enrollment director will
contact you to set up an interview with the class teachers to meet you
and your child. You can learn more about our faculty in the Faculty
& Staff section.
Newly applying Nursery/Kindergarten families will
be notified of their
admissions decision and enrollment deadline within approximately one
week of their family
interview (for midyear enrollment); for new Fall enrollment during the
Spring interview sessions, families will be notified by mid-May.
4. Visit
Week (Grades only)
If your child is applying midyear for admission to the Grades program,
a
visit week will be scheduled for him or her following the interview.
This is an opportunity for your child to participate with the class
through a full week of school. After a prospective student completes
the visit week, the faculty makes a collaborative decision on his or
her enrollment. (This decision-making process may take up to one week.)
If the student is accepted, he or she may then enroll. For all
new enrollees, the
first six weeks of attendance are considered a trial period.
All
admissions decisions are made
by the faculty. Upon acceptance and enrollment, a nonrefundable
registration fee, supply fee and 10 percent tuition deposit are due.
